Cotton is a perennial tropical plant with yellow flowers with black seeds. It contains a chemical compound called gossypol which is antifungal, it is also used as an anti-fertility medicine and its tiny seeds produce edible oil.
The seeds are used by Native Americans to weave hammocks.
The leaves are used in the treatment of hypertension, delays, and irregular periods.
An extract of the flower is used against inflammation of the ear.
Another therapeutic application is the use as an emmenagogue (a substance that helps promote menstruation)
