This plant, common to the old and the new world, was until three years ago confused with Chrysanthellum americanum or Chrysanthellum procumbens which is a related species. In traditional medicine, it is used in various gastrointestinal disorders and as a decoction in mouthwashes to calm toothache and as a head wash in cases of migraine.
Description.
It is a herbaceous plant, more or less erect, reaching up to 12 centimeters in height. The alternate leaves are very indented and few in number. The flowers, yellow heads are arranged at the top of the stems or in the axils of the leaves; each flower head is supported by a long peduncle. The fruits are flattened achenes, enlarged at the top, and surrounded by a greenish wing. It is found along paths and roads, generally shallow water points.
