The rhizomes of this plant contain essential oil with a pleasant smell and which is widely used to disinfect drinking water. We must distinguish this vetiver from the other species Vetiveria zizanoides which grows in Asia and whose essence is the basis of many fragrances. On the other hand, the water flavored with the essence of this rhizome is given to children to calm diarrhea.

Description

It is a perennial herb thanks to its short rhizomes that form compact tufts with many upright leaves. The leaves are very long. The flowers are arranged in racemes composed of 15 to 20 whorls.

The rhizome of this plant contains essential oil with sesquiterpene alcohols responsible for the disinfectant and antiseptic action.
